The origin of the Patacón

The word patacón comes from the Arabic batakká, which refers to the name given to many coins used by the Arabs. Over time, ‘Batakká’ was translated into Italian as ‘patácca’, which became ‘patacón’. It was the name by which the first Colombian currency was known, and thus the delicious banana dish was named in the same way.

We can find patacón in the typical dishes of the region, but we can also find portions of this delicious preparation accompanied by cheese or whey.
